Inova's breast care navigators are your personal resource experts. These specially trained registered nurses serve as a source of support for you and your family. They help manage and coordinate your doctor’s office visits, diagnostic tests, and communications between your specialist and primary care physician. They also are excellent resources for information about clinical trials, breast cancer education and transportation or financial concerns.

Lea Green, RNLea Green, RN

After graduating from Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond, Virginia, Lea worked as the coordinator of Georgetown University Medical Center/Lombardi Cancer Center Hospice Cancer Home Care Program for 31 years and as breast cancer research manager at Georgetown University Medical Center/Lombardi Cancer Center for two years. She also worked as a radiation oncology nurse at Reston Hospital and as an oncology case manager for Alere Healthcare. Lea is also a founding member of Oncology Nursing Society.

Lianne Tedesco, RNLianne Tedesco, RN

Lianne, a certified breast cancer navigator, has been a registered nurse for 25 years. Before joining Inova, she worked as an oncology nurse navigator in Northern Virginia, as a breast cancer nurse navigator in Atlanta, Georgia, for seven years, and served in the US Army as an Army Nurse Corps officer for 5 years. In addition, she has worked in various roles that give her a very strong background in patient education.

Lianne understands the unique needs of breast cancer patients and strives to always provide kind and compassionate care. Lianne earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing from The Pennsylvania State University. Lianne enjoys running in marathons and is married with a daughter.

Gale Towery Inova Breast Care navigatorGale Towery, RN, BSN, OCN

Gale brings more than 30 years of nursing experience to her role as breast care navigator. She has worked in a variety of settings, but since 1992 her primary focus has been oncology nursing, including administering chemotherapy and radiation oncology. She became a certified oncology nurse in 1997 and has cared extensively for patients and families going through cancer treatment. As a breast care navigator, Gale will be alongside a patient throughout their cancer journey to provide answers to their questions, offer resources and emotional support. She loves what she does because of the opportunity to help make a difference in a patient’s care experience.

Gale graduated from the University Of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She is married with three sons and enjoys playing the piano and guitar, swimming on a masters swim team and spending time with her grandkids.

Michele Reddick, RN, BSNMichele Reddick, RN, BSN

Upon graduating from George Mason University in 2003, Michele worked at Inova Fairfax Hospital on the GYN-oncology women’s unit for nine years. She served as preceptor, permanent charge nurse and nurse manager.

Barb McDonnell, RNBarb McDonnell, RN

Barb has 32 years of nursing experience, spent mostly in surgical services, where she has cared for patients before, during and after surgery. Her background also includes clinical oversight of the obstetrical unit, intensive care unit, and outpatient infusion and transfusion services. 

She feels strongly that nurses should be patient advocates, informing them and helping ease their stay with empathetic, compassionate care. Barb sees the breast care navigator role as tailored to that vision, giving her an opportunity to make breast patients’ experience as positive as possible during their entire care continuum, from mammogram to treatment. 

Barb received her master's in nursing from George Mason University and her certification in nursing administration from the American Nursing Credentialing Center. She is also a member of Association of Perioperative Nurses and Oncology Nursing Society.

Christine Stone, RN

Christine is a seasoned oncology nurse, with over 20 years experience at Inova in medical and radiation oncology and stem cell transplant. She currently serves as a board member for the Oncology Nursing Society. She earned her bachelor's degree in nursing at Radford University, followed by her master's in nursing at George Mason University.

Christine sees her role as essential in a patient’s cancer journey and considers it a true privilege to work with breast cancer patients.
